Jeremy Scahill on Human Rights and Nikki Haley Resignation
By Julian HaydaThis morning, the U.S. Ambassador to the U.N., Nikki Haley, announced her resignation. Haley, former governor of South Carolina, had a controversial track record since President Trump selected her for the post, which included a U.S. withdrawal from the UN Human Rights Council. Jeremy Scahill, co-founder of the investigative outlet The Intercept, has been a vocal critic of the “American exceptionalism” at the core of Haley’s rhetoric. He’s written extensively on human rights violations. Scahill’s most notable works Dirty Wars: The World Is a Battlefield and Blackwater: The Rise of the World’s Most Powerful Mercenary Army, exposed military scandals from both the Bush and Obama administrations. As part of the Third Coast Festival, Scahill is in Chicago for a live taping of his podcast Intercepted.
