Legal advocates and veterans groups in Illinois are launching a program that offers free legal services to some armed service members. Veterans and current military personnel in Illinois who make less than 80 percent of the yearly Chicago-area median income will now have access to free legal advice. That’s through the newly established Illinois Armed Forces Legal Aid Network, which has set up a hotline to connect eligible participants with legal aid providers. The network is partnering with nine legal organizations across the state to provide services.
