Sharon Van Etten is a singer-songwriter from New Jersey who is steadily expanding her sphere of influence. Her music career began only a few years ago performing in coffeeshops and recording in her bedroom, but now she’s found on network television, touring the world and in The New York Times Magazine.

What’s remarkable is that her art has matured at roughly the same rate as her acclaim. The sparse introspection of her first album Because I Was In Love grew into the subtle confidence of Epic. Now with her third album, Tramp (to be released next Tuesday), Van Etten is a forceful leader of a muscular band. On a recent Late Show performance she commanded the stage with a surprising intensity. The crowds at her upcoming two-night stand at Lincoln Hall are definitely in for a treat.

The Letterman performance reminded me of an “L Session” we recorded with Van Etten at the 2010 Pitchfork Music Festival. I went digging into our archives and discovered that we still had one song we’d never released. What better occassion than today? Here’s Sharon Van Etten performing “One Day” from her album Epic, in July 2010, a few months before the album was released.
