The late Oscar Brown Jr. was a renaissance man, and a true Chicago classic. As a musician, poet, playwright, and civil rights activist, Brown’s impact on the Black Arts movement still reverberates today. Tonight, his daughter Maggie Brown, a talented artist in her own right, will celebrate her father’s work in A Legacy of Jazz and Poetry at Steppenwolf Theater.

Brown recently talked with Eight Forty-Eight’s Richard Steele about the tribute and her dad. She says that Oscar Brown Jr. could find inspiration in just about anything.
