A man who was assaulted by a guard at Cook County Jail more than two years ago is now suing the Cook County sheriff over the incident.

Litroy Bolton was beaten by a corrections officer after he refused to enter a quarantined cell. The incident was caught on two jail security cameras, but video and incident reports weren’t released until last May.

Attorney Vince Field said that’s because the Cook County Sheriff’s Office of Professional Review intentionally dragged its feet in order to exhaust the time Bolton had to bring charges against the offending officer.

Field also said once released, the incident reports did not allude to the assault.

A spokesperson from the Cook County Sheriff’s Office said none of the reports were falsified, no part of the investigation was intentionally delayed and Bolton is mischaracterizing the evidence.
