Attorney General Jeff Sessions issued a memo Monday that more narrowly defines so-called sanctuary cities. The move comes a month after a judge stopped President Trump from stripping federal funds from those cities. Meanwhile, Mayor Rahm Emanuel is doubling down on Chicago’s status as one of the largest sanctuary cities in the nation.
Over the weekend, he announced a new campaign called One Chicago that aims to provide resources to immigrants and refugees in the city. Though the threat to sanctuary cities has been pushed out of the limelight in recent weeks due to a high volume of news out of Washington, Mayor Emanuel says One Chicago was established to the needs of those individuals most affected by federal policies targeting immigrants and refugees.
