Mayor Johnson will not renew the city’s contract with ShotSpotter

Nine months after taking office, the Mayor makes good on a campaign promise to decommission the gunshot detection system.

Supporters of the technology say this will slow response times to gunshot victims, but studies by the city and county officials find the tech system rarely produces documented evidence of a gun crime. The Mayor’s office says it plans to decommission the gunshot detection system on September 22.
