A Mexican mother today announced she’s defying a deportation order and staying in a church on Chicago’s West Side. She said the nation’s top Democrats are ignoring the plight of undocumented immigrants.

An immigration judge ordered 28-year-old Flor Crisóstomo to leave the country by today. But instead she addressed dozens of news reporters at Adalberto United Methodist Church.

Crisóstomo concedes her actions won’t likely win legalization for the nation’s 12 million undocumented workers.

Another Mexican mother, Elvira Arellano, was deported last August after living in the church for a year with her U.S.-born son. An Immigration and Customs Enforcement statement this afternoon said the agency will come after Crisóstomo, but didn’t specify when.

Crisóstomo’s supporters accused Senators Barak Obama and Hillary Clinton of backing away from immigration reform efforts. Obama’s office didn’t return our calls. A Clinton spokeswoman says the former first lady remains a strong defender of immigrants.
