Illinois teens may face more requirements before getting their driver’s licenses.

Secretary of State Jesse White says he wants teens to hold a conditional license for two years before they can get their regular one at age 18.

That would mean teens could only have one passenger under the age of 20, unless they’re family.

“We have found that the more young people we have in an automobile, it increases the likelihood of individuals getting involved with an automobile crash because they become a distracted driver,” White says.

Drivers who are 16 and 17 would have a curfew and couldn’t use a cell phone while driving.

This comes on top of a new law that requires teens to spend 50 hours behind the wheel before they can get their license.
