More than 30 U-S cities and town’s have now adopted a traffic safety campaign called Vision Zero that was created in Sweden. The goal of Vision Zero is self explanatory with New York hoping to reduce by 50 percent, traffic fatalities that effect motorists, pedestrians and cyclists by 2025. Chicago wants to completely eliminate traffic deaths by 2026. Morning Shift wanted to hear about how New York has been able to achieve success since it launched Vision Zero in 2014 so we teamed up with the New York pubradio station WNYC and the Brian Lehrer Show for a one hour co-broadcast where we from that city’s Transportation Commissioner Polly Trottenberg, and Chicago Transportation Commissioner Rebekah Seinfeld about the challenges, and future of its Vision Zero campaign which is now a year old. We also opened up the phones to listeners from both shows.
