When a group of street artists gathered last spring to complete a mural in Chicago’s Washington Park neighborhood, they thought they were creating art the south side community could enjoy for a long time. But a week later it was painted over, or what street artists call “white washed”. That groups says the mural project was organized by the University of Chicago’s Arts Incubator, a project led by artist and community organizer Theater Gates. They also claim the Incubator was the force that started to dismantle the mural after hearing complaints from community members that it included violent images. We talk to the players involved in the mural’s construction-and destruction. Photo Courtesy of Facebook
