President Barack Obama returns to Chicago Thursday afternoon. It’s his third visit to the city since taking office.

The president won’t be staying long; the White House estimates his visit will last just over four hours. The trip looks to be all about raising money for the Democratic National Committee.

Chicago sports figures, including Bears coach Lovie Smith, join the president at a reception at the Hyatt downtown. Admission ranges from $250 up to $2500. Governor Pat Quinn is also expected to attend, as is Comptroller Dan Hynes, an early supporter of Mr. Obama’s presidential run, and Quinn’s potential opponent in next year’s Democratic primary.

The president last came to town in June to speak to the American Medical Association about his healthcare plan. The Chicago-based doctors group last week provided a key endorsement for a version of that plan now moving through the U.S. House.
