One of O’Hare Airport’s six runways is still shut down at this hour.

Earlier this morning a FedEx airplane slid off the runway.

Chicago Department of Aviation spokesperson Wendy Abrams says crews are expected to get the runway back up later today.

She says it’s too soon to speculate why the plane slid off the runway.

“We are working diligently to recover the aircraft so we can bring that runway back online and the NTSB has been notified,” Abrams says. “I’m not sure if they’re going to investigate this incident.”

There were no injuries in the accident.

Meanwhile airlines are still experiencing delays at both O’Hare and Midway.

Hundreds of passengers are stranded at the airports.

But Abrams says if the weather holds up, both airports should be back to normal operations by this evening.
