Contract negotiations between teachers and a Northwest suburban school district are not going well. Teachers in the Palatine area yesterday filed their intention to strike.

District 15 Superintendent Robert McKanna says the sides have been working to resolve a dispute over salary.

“Still, the parties are not very close together on some key issues but that’s why we have two dates next week with the mediator,” he says.

A union spokesperson says the school district is putting misleading information on its Web site.

Teachers can’t legally go on strike until October 2. Negotiations are scheduled to resume on Tuesday.
