A group of Chicago Public School parents are calling on lawmakers to approve a bill that would switch to an elected school board. It’s been an ongoing effort. Chicago is the only district in Illinois where the mayor appoints the school board. The bill at the state capitol passed the House. The Senate approved it but with an amendment creating an independent commission to set voting districts. It’s back in the House with lawmakers unable to agree on that point. Chicago’s mayor opposes an elected school board.
