The minister of a large Chicago church is criticizing his congressman. Rev. Marshall Hatch says Danny Davis has done a good job in Washington but should have kept his word to step down. We report from our West Side bureau.

Marshall Hatch has built a following as pastor of New Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church in West Garfield Park. He’s among nearly a dozen Democrats who filed to run for the Congressional seat Danny Davis said he was vacating.

Davis on Monday dropped his bid to challenge Cook County Board President Todd Stroger. Davis says he’ll run instead for an eighth term.

Hatch isn’t happy.

HATCH: Career politicians are able to not necessarily mean what they say, but I guess that’s the way the game is played.

Davis insists his cause is noble.

DAVIS: Do you think that I would have worked all day, every day, trying to forge together a concept of unity — that that would be some kind of game?

Davis’s decision to run for reelection has led three Democrats to drop out of the race. Several other challengers in the February primary remain.
