The agency that takes complaints and investigates police misconduct in Chicago is moving their headquarters from South Side to the North Side.

Right now the Independent Police Review Authority, or IPRA, has offices on 35th Street, near police headquarters as well as the Red and Green Lines and the Dan Ryan expressway. But IPRA is leasing the space.  They’ll be moving to the city-owned Goldblatt’s building at Chicago and Ashland.

Ilana Rosenzweig, the head of IPRA, says the Blue and Green Lines are pretty close to the new location, and she says IPRA employees can also go out to take citizen complaints.  “We can go to their home or even some people want us to come to their work and they’ll take a break and give us the information so, we’ll still be able to hopefully reach the people we need to reach,” says Rosenzweig.

She adds, in these tough budget times the move will save the city much-needed money.
