Cook County Commissioners are poised to repeal a newly-implemented tax on sweetened drinks next week. If repealed, the tax would go away on Dec. 1.

The number of Cook County Commissioners who want to get rid of the penny-per-ounce tax on sugary drinks is up to 12 — enough votes to override a potential veto from the tax’s main supporter, Democratic Board President Toni Preckwinkle.

Democratic Commissioner Stanley Moore changed his position on the tax Friday after his constituents complained. He says he supported a repeal because it gives the board two months to find a new way to raise revenue.
