Two years ago, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg was on vacation in Mexico with her husband when he died suddenly at the age of 47. In that moment, she became a single-parent with two young children trying to wrap her head around how to move forward.

With the help of colleagues and friends, including psychologist Adam Grant, she has started to put her life back together. Now Sandberg and Grant have teamed up on a new book to help guide people through some of their darkest moments. It’s called Option B: Facing Adversity, Building Resilience and Finding Joy.

Sandberg and Grant appear Friday night at the Chicago Humanities Festival to talk about the book. In advance of that appearance, the Morning Shift spoke to Grant about Option B as well as his other work, including his recent book Originals, where he breaks down what sets groundbreaking people apart from the masses. One hint: A little procrastination never hurts.
