Reaction to President Obama’s Speech to chiefs of police

Resources for police, criminal justice reform and gun control are three topics President Obama touched on yesterday afternoon in Chicago. He was in town to address the annual conference for the International Association of Chiefs of Police, where he started by praising the work of officers around the country. But the president also acknowledged the strained relationship between minority communities and the police and called on officers and departments to do their part to solve that problem. Art Lurigio, a professor and dean for faculty at Loyola University who studies the intersection of psychology and criminal justice, talks more about the president’s remarks and police-community relations in Chicago.
