The battle to extend unemployment benefits continues as the Senate Wednesday voted to end discussion on Democratic-backed measures that would pick up where benefits expired in December. The economic impact of unemployment is obvious, but there’s a deeper toll on someone’s emotional health when they’ve been out of work for an extended period of time. Economics professor Timothy Classen’s research draws the connection between unemployment rates and suicide.
