A recent budget hearing for the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) took a turn when aldermen raised frustrations with disruptions in their wards.
The source of the disruption? TV and movie crews filming around the city.
Aldermen throughout Chicago say their offices are fielding complaints from residents annoyed with camera crews shutting down streets and clogging up traffic, and are calling for more regulations from DCASE for people seeking film permits.
DCASE director Mark Kelly said there needs to be a “balance,” as filming in Chicago comes with some major benefits. And plenty of shows film here regularly, including Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, Chicago Med, Shameless, and Easy.
