Chicago’s Streets and Sanitation Commissioner says irresponsible garbage truck workers will be disciplined. That’s after report from the city’s Inspector General found some crews were slacking on the job.

Streets and San Commissioner Mike Picardi says all his employees know their work responsibilities. And he says those who slack off can expect consequences.

PICARDI: I’m not taking what has happened here lightly. I’m disgusted by it. And we will address those employees that were involved in this misconduct because that’s what this is. This is misconduct. They all know the rules.

Chicago’s Inspector General released a report saying some garbage truck workers loafed around for an average of two hours a day. The report says that adds up to an estimated $14 million annually in wasted wages.

Picardi says most sanitation employees do their job correctly. But he says those who don’t, should worry about their jobs.
