A former Chicago Bulls player has been selected to be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Scottie Pippen was a key player in helping the Chicago Bulls win 6 NBA Championships in the 1990s. Today, he’s been named one of 8 people selected to be inducted into the basketball hall of fame.

WBEZ sports contributor Cheryl Raye Stout says the induction comes as no surprise. She says even near the end of his basketball career, Pippen was held in high regard.

CHERYL: Scottie couldn’t play like he could play, but he could teach the players. And he taught them an awful lot about hard work, doing the best with your skills and being a really good team mate. And that will be his legacy as far as being a Chicago Bull and an NBA player.

The 1992 Men’s Olympic Basketball team, or the Dream Team was also selected for induction. Pippen and fellow Bull’s teammate Michael Jordan helped earn the team a gold medal.

Jordan is already in the Hall of Fame. Pippen will officially join him in August.
