Sendy Soto announced as Chicago’s first chief homelessness officer

She’ll be tasked with creating a five-year plan to address homelessness in Chicago.

Mayor Johnson created this position in an executive order in October 2023 to coordinate efforts across city departments and city agencies to prevent and end homelessness. Meanwhile. ,Alderman Byron Sigcho Lopez maintains his post as housing committee chair after several conservative members of the council held a special hearing to remove him over a free speech controversy.
