Some Illinois veterans of the Korean War were recognized for their service Thursday more than 60 years after the end of the Korean War.
The Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs said it didn’t know how it happened, but paperwork for medals for 24 Korean War veterans was never filed.
An officer at a Veterans Home in Southern Illinois recognized the error when he was processing intakes several weeks ago.
