Parents from a South Loop elementary school claim a controversial plan to convert their building into a high school is all about politics. Last month, Chicago Public Schools recommended converting a South Loop elementary school into a high school to serve the growing communities nearby. Wednesday, several parents told Board of Education members to vote against the plan that would close a thriving, predominantly African-American school. They allege CPS leaders are doing the mayor’s bidding. Board president Frank Clark defended CPS leaders, saying they’re only trying to do what’s right for the neighborhood and the city.
