In 2013, musician Steve Grand spent $7,000 of his own money to release a single and a video that that became a viral sensation. The song landed him spots on Good Morning America, CNN, and other national media, where Grand was dubbed one of America’s “first openly gay country stars.” While he doesn’t mind being associated with country, Grand’s music leans more toward pop and traditional singer-songwriter fare. Now, two years, four million views, and a kickstarter campaign later, the Chicago native is finally releasing his debut album. He joins Morning Shift to talk about his journey and sing some of his new tunes.
