Cook County Board President Todd Stroger says he thinks an investigation into the county’s finances won’t have a huge impact on his re-election bid. Commissioner John Daley last week informed board members Cook County prosecutors had sent out subpoenas to the county’s auditors. Stroger says he’ll correct any possible problems the investigation might uncover.

STROGER: They’re just subpoenas. They don’t mean anything unless we find out. And if there are problems, we’ll do what we always do when we find out we have problems: we correct them.

Stroger wouldn’t say why prosecutors are looking into last year’s financial records. During that time, Stroger’s cousin Donna Dunnings was the county’s chief financial officer. She resigned earlier this year over questions about her involvement in bailing out a county employee from jail. Stroger faces a number of challengers in next year’s crowded Democratic primary.
