A new and controversial Planned Parenthood clinic in west suburban Aurora is being taken to court. An anti-abortion group is using zoning rules to challenge the opening of the clinic. It filed court papers yesterday.

The newly constructed Planned Parenthood facility did not use its own name on paperwork when applying for permits with Aurora. That kept opponents unaware of the proposed clinic; at least for a while.

Now the anti-abortion Thomas More Society is taking Planned Parenthood to court. Denise Mackura is the group’s director. She says it’s unfair to the neighbors to have the clinic located where it is and it violates some zoning laws.

MACKURA: If the zoning requirements had been followed, it would’ve given the citizens of Aurora an opportunity to express their concerns and it would’ve led to modifications in the plans of the city regarding this Planned Parenthood facility.

Mackura also says Planned Parenthood is operating on a temporary permit, which she says is invalid.

A spokesperson for the City of Aurora would not immediately comment on the court filing. Planned Parenthood was not available.
