A program to help end violence in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood is giving almost a thousand young adults summer jobs.

U.S. Representative Bobby Rush started the Hope and Healing program.

He says marching to end violence isn’t enough any more.

“The success of the program is by seeing all these students employed by the end of the summer, gainfully employed, not involved in any kind of criminal, anti-social behavior and that they learn what it means to have a job and to honor and respect their job and honor and respect work and to have some money in their pockets,” he says.

Rush says the program will give the youth good networking skills.

The jobs range from administrative positions to community work.
