Taxpayers have another three weeks to file their taxes. According to the makers of the Turbo Tax software, Chicago is number one in waiting until the last minute to file.

If you haven’t filed your taxes yet, you might be one of those people giving Chicago the procrastination title. Scott Gulbransen is with Turbo Tax.

GULBRANSEN: It’s not like some of the other ominous rankings where some cities are considered the fattest city or this city or that city. This is really just to underscore the point that people do wait to the last minute.

The IRS says it doesn’t keep track of when taxes are filed just as long as it’s done before April 15.

Northwestern Professor Paola Sapienza studies procrastination in the economy. She says impatient people are most likely the ones slacking.

SAPIENZA: Highly impatient individuals prefer spending their time in their favorite activities and delay all the painful activities.

Sapienza says maybe Chicago just has more distractions than other cities.
