Tech Shift: The nation’s newest supercomputer is coming to Argonne National Laboratory

The Department of Energy announced that Argonne National Laboratory in Lemont, Ill. will be home to the nation’s latest state-of-the-art supercomputer. It’s called Aurora. When it’s commissioned in 2018, it will be open to all scientific users. It will also draw America’s top researchers to Argonne and the Chicago area. DOE announced the $200 million investment this morning at 1871, the digital startup hub here in Chicago. Michael Papka and Susan Coghlan are the people in charge of computing at Argonne, and they give us the details.
