R. Kelly performingAnother day of jury questioning at the R. Kelly trial. Cook County Circuit Judge Vincent Gaughan likes people who serve his country and he tells them. This morning, one of the potential jurors questioned was a man who served in the navy as Third Vice Commander of the American Legion. The judge thanked him for his service, all while sipping out of his American Legion coffee mug. Later, another potential juror mentioned his son attends West Point. Again, the judge thanked him. But this same man during questioning was full of quips. He wrote ““Hell yes!”” when asked on his jury questionnaire whether people with money are treated better. He said, ““Better lawyers will go where money is, the others go to the state.“” He then looked at the prosecutors and added, ““No offense.“” He also wrote on his questionnaire that what consenting adults do behind closed doors is their deal but he also said having sex with kids “just doesn’t fly”. Meanwhile, journalists are subjected to using old sandwich vending machines to store their stuff. It’’s really strict in the courtroom. This morning one reporter got kicked out because he broke the judge’s decorum order. I’’m really glad I didn’‘t go up to that mystery woman in the back of the courtroom, or I wouldn’t be writing this blog.
