The new French film The Class opens in
Chicago theaters today. The Class took home the Palm d’Or at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival and received an Oscar nomination for best foreign film. Using semi-improvised dialogue, The Class portrays a school in a rough part of
Paris. It stars a real-life teacher and a largely immigrant student body, most of whom are non-actors. Laurent Cantet directed and co-wrote the film. He stopped by our studios to speak with Worldview film commentator Milos Stehlik. Cantet told
Milos why classroom dynamics fascinate him.
