How the new 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline will work in Illinois

Over the weekend, the U.S. transitioned the 10-digit National Suicide Prevention Lifeline to 988.

Before the launch of the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, people in a mental health crisis had to call 800-273-8255.That number will still work, but experts are hoping the new three-digit number will make it easier to connect people with the mental help they need.
