Mitt Romney may be out of the presidential race, but he’s still holding on to his delegates. The former Massachusetts governor earned three in Illinois. State Senator Dale Righter from downstate Mattoon holds one of those three. He says party rules keep him committed to the governor until Romney decides to release his delegates.

RIGHTER: Governor Romney, like I said, has put a lot of time and effort into a campaign that just didn’t quite take hold like I know that he and I and a lot of his supporters wanted it to, so he’s gonna hang on for a while, I’d assume and kinda watch and see how things develop.

In addition to Righter, state Senator Dan Rutherford and former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert are also delegates to Romney. Arizona Senator John McCain won the majority of Republican delegates in Illinois.
