Let’s face it: Some commencement speeches are long and boring, the speaker droning on and offering up inspirational quotes that aren’t quite so inspirational.

But even the dullest of commencement speeches usually includes at least a few nuggets of wisdom, bits of advice that hopefully stick in the brain of young graduates and make them think a little more deeply about the future. That’s what we’re after.

We’re mining for solid pieces of advice for today’s grads. Morning Shift opens up the phones for listeners to weigh in with their recommendations and tips for a successful life and career.

We also hear from two experts on the subject. Cristina Negrut collects commencement speeches and curates some of the best advice on her site GraduationWisdom.com. Dr. Kwang-Wu Kim is president and CEO of Columbia College Chicago.
