The U.S economy added 287,000 jobs in June, according to the monthly report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
That far exceeds projections. Analysts had expected the economy to add some 170,000 jobs.
Economists were paying particularly close attention to this report after the economy added just 38,000 jobs in May. That figure was seen as “shockingly low,” as we reported.
The unemployment rate increased by 0.2 percentage points to 4.9 percent, according to the Bureau. “These increases largely offset declines in May and brought both measures back in line with levels that had prevailed from August 2015 to April,” according to the report.
