Crews are still working to restore 92,000 Chicago-area residents without power from this weekend’s storm.

Monica Salinas says since most of the street lights are out in West Chicago, she had to take side streets to work this morning to avoid all the traffic. 

“We usually lose power one day, the next day we’re ready to go. But no, not this time, this time is much worse,” she said.

Salinas works at Irma’s Delight Ice Cream Shop on West Roosevelt Road. She said they’re using around 100 pounds of dry ice and rented freezer vans to try and keep the ice cream from melting.

But it’s not just the ice cream that’s on her mind. There are seven in her family, and the power’s out at home, too.

“We all slept in the basement because it was so hot, so the basement was so much nice and cooler,” she said.

ComEd says it could take a few days to restore around 200,000 customers who lost power when the storm first hit.
