President Barack Obama and Cuban President Raul Castro met yesterday in a historic meeting. Not since 1928 have current leaders from the two countries met on Cuban soil.
Obama pushed Castro on human rights and political prisoners. In response, Castro criticized the U.S. record on issues like income inequality and lack of universal healthcare.
He also urged the U.S. to lift all sanctions on his country.
Today, President Obama delivered a speech to the Cuban public. We get an update from Havana on the historic meetings from Alberto Coll, who at age 6, witnessed his father’s arrest for opposing the Cuban government. He’s professor of law and director of the Latin American Studies program at DePaul University .
