For migrants arriving in Chicago, finding health care can be daunting. Here’s a list of some of the health clinics that offer prenatal care for low-income or uninsured people.
By Molly MorrowFor migrants arriving in Chicago, finding health care can be a daunting issue. A frequent first stop for many is Cook County Health, a Chicago public health system. However, wait times for appointments at clinics can grow long, and those needing more timely care — including pregnant migrants arriving to the city — are not always aware of other options.
It’s not easy to find a ready list of clinics in Chicago that offer OB-GYN services for low-cost or sliding scale. The list below draws from Chicago’s array of Federally Qualified Health Centers, or FQHCs, that serve people who are uninsured, low income and on Medicaid. While far from comprehensive, it was compiled with assistance from advocates and health experts and provides a starting point for any pregnant person seeking prenatal care in Chicago.
