The Chicago White Sox lost their first game in the American League playoffs against the Tampa Bay Rays Thursday afternoon.

After a 3-run homer hit by Sox left-fielder Dewayne Wise in the third inning, the South Siders fizzled. Chicago made a last attempt to inch ahead of Tampa Bay in the ninth inning. But the Rays beat out the visiting Sox 6 to 4. The Sox will try to rebound Friday night in game 2 of the 5-game series.

Over at Wrigley Field, the Chicago Cubs are hoping for their own rebound from Wednesday night’s loss against the LA Dodgers.  The second of the Cubs’ National League playoff games starts Thursday night at 8:30.
