The Importance of Having a School Nurse

As kids head back to class this fall no doubt many will visit their school nurse. But these days school nurses do much more than tend to a cut or scrape on the knee...they’re often dealing with chronic physical and mental health conditions of students. That’s if a school is lucky enough to have an on duty nurse. Here in Illinois, more than half of schools don’t- many have to share nurses, putting all that important work at risk. We heard more on the importance of having a dedicated school nurse with  Linda Vollinger - head of Illinois Association of School Nurses and the nurse at Stagg High School in Palos Hills. We also took some listener calls.
