Since the Hamas and Fatah unity government fell apart in a hail of gunfire events have moved quickly.

President Abbas created a new government of dubious legality with technocrat Salem Fayad. The US and Israel have offered aid money and sent 1,000 M-16 weapons thru Jordan to bolster Abbas.

Mohammed Dahlan, the Fatah Security official blamed for losing Gaza to Hamas, has just resigned.

Israel and the US are reigniting peace talks with Abbas.
