Bush and Faith-Based Initiatives

David Kuo— Former Deputy Director, Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives; Author, “Tempting Faith: An Inside Story of Political Seduction”

We'll continue our look at Bush's presidency now with the role of religion in Bush's policies.

One of Bush's first moves as president was to create the Office of Faith-Based Community Initiatives.  He signed the executive orders that created the office only 9 days after his inauguration.

The office was initially the target of a debate on the role of religion in government.  Today, the initiative is seen as largely a failure.

David Kuo is a former Deputy Director of the Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives. After he left the office in 2003 he wrote “Tempting Faith: An Inside Story of Political Seduction”
