Chicago's numerous Ukrainian churches and community organizations support a worldwide initiative to recognize and commemorate the man-made famine of 1932-33 (Holodomor) that claimed at least 10 million victims in Ukraine. Breaking the Silence on the Unknown Genocide is a two-day event being held at The Cervantes Institute of Chicago on Friday, September 12 and Saturday, September 13.
There will be a Friday evening candlelight vigil, an exhibition and recognition ceremony, which begins at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the conference will feature noted academics, a Holodomor survivor and a preview of a new feature-length documentary about the genocide.
The general public is welcome.
