International pressure is mounting on Syria's President Bashar al-Assad. Last weekend, the Arab League suspended Syria’s membership. Yesterday, Jordan’s King Abdullah called for Assad to step down. These developments come after Syrian troops have killed hundreds of protesters in the restive city of Homs in recent weeks, despite an official pledge to end the violence.
