Why did negotiations with Iran breakdown?

News reports last week made it appear as if a deal with Iran regarding its uranium enrichment program was basically a done deal. But in the end, negotiators were unable to agree on a framework for easing economic sanctions in exchange for Iran curbing its uranium enrichment program.
