The fight against "superbugs"

The fight against "superbugs"

According to the Center for Disease Control at least two million people become infected with antibiotic resistant bacteria in the U.S. each year, killing 23,000 people. ‘Get Smart About Antibiotics Week’ is a yearly initiative of the CDC to raise awareness about antibiotic resistance and appropriate antibiotic prescription and use. We’ll talk about how overprescribing antibiotics is impacting public health with Dr. Arjun Srinivasan, the CDC’s lead spokesperson on antibiotic resistance and Dr. Everly Macario, a public health expert. Her healthy infant son, Simon, died from methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). We’ll also talk with Dan Rosenthal, a Chicago restaurant owner leading a campaign to make all Chicago restaurants free of products from antibiotic-fed animals. (Photo: Flickr/V)
